Our Historical Background
Following independence in 1966, a Department of Cabinet Personnel was established under the Office of the Prime Minister to handle all personnel matters in the public service. In 1985/6 the Department was upgraded to a ministerial status and granted executive authority over the administration of the personnel function in the entire public service. During the 1999/2000 financial year, the Ministry was granted full operational autonomy under Head 44, but continued to operate under the Prime Minister’s Office. In 2007 the Ministry of the Public Service became a stand-alone Ministry headed by its own Minister. The Ministry of the Public Service has the following nine departments through which it implements its mandate:

Our Mandate
The Ministry of the Public Service is mandated to develop and maintain a stable, efficient and effectively managed public service. (The Ministry`s mandate is derived from the Minister`s powers as provided for under Section 10 of the Public Service Act 2005)

Vision
To be the most efficient public service that is citizen focused and result oriented by 2030.

Mission
The Ministry of the Public Service is responsible to promote professional public service through responsive laws, policies and systems to maximize employees` performance for service delivery.
